christmas-letter-2016

With the holiday season upon us, Armstrong Habitat for Humanity is reflecting on the past year and on those who have helped our organization in most selfless ways. We value our relationship with you, and we look forward to your ongoing support in the year to come. We also wish you a very Merry Christmas and a New Year filled with peace and prosperity.

Through the support of our community and local businesses, we have rehabilitated a distressed property for one of our most recent Habitat home buyers in the Wick City neighborhood of Kittanning, PA.

We were able to welcome our new Habitat Home Buyer during a dedication ceremony at 306 Smith Street, Kittanning, on October 17, 2016.

This past year we also helped 24 families in the Wick City neighborhood through our Brush with Kindness program. This program is part of our ongoing Wick City Neighborhood Revitalization and Beautification effort – which is a community collaboration that involves repairing and improving low-income properties by creating new planting areas, building wheelchair accessible ramps, repairing porches, painting home exteriors, and repairing roofs. Our sponsors and volunteers not only help us build and repair houses but help build better lives and communities.

Please consider donating to our organization using the enclosed envelop so that we can continue to serve families in need within Armstrong County. If you prefer, you may donate to us online by going to our webpage www.armstronghabitat.org and clicking under Donate Today on the PayPal Verified button. And while shopping online at Amazon, consider choosing Armstrong Habitat for Humanity as your selected charity for AmazonSmile purchases.

Thank you in advance for your support. With your donation we can and will continue putting God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

Sincerely,

Michael McElhaney

Executive Director

Women Build

Jun 11, 2014   //   by Elizabeth Wright   //   Uncategorized  //  No Comments
Women Build is a program of Habitat for Humanity International.  The main goal is to empower women to take action against poverty housing. Through the Women Build program, women have the chance to learn construction in a supportive environment while helping to build homes, communities, and hope.  This event is not about excluding men but rather including women and opening new doors of opportunity.  Both women and men are welcome to help.

Women Build will start back up in August or September as more projects become available.  If you are interested in volunteering, please reply to Elizabeth@ArmstrongHabitat.org or call Mike McElhaney at (724)467-2771.

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped during the initial kick-off in May.  It is amazing how much time you all put in and the amount of work that was completed.  Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

Day of Giving- HUGE Success!

May 13, 2014   //   by Elizabeth Wright   //   Uncategorized  //  No Comments

annual Day of GivingArmstrong Habitat for Humanity sponsored a Champagne Garden Reception on April 27, 2014 in conjunction with the annual Day of Giving held on May 8.  The Day of Giving is a donation program sponsored by the Armstrong County Community Foundation that matches contributions given to qualifying non profit organizations on that day.

This year we were fortunate to have the reception hosted by Jim and Lynn Ramage.  They offered guests a guided tour of their beautiful estate and gardens.  Delicious hors d’oeuvres, deserts, and refreshments were also offered courtesy of Nextier Bank. While enjoying the beautiful setting and lovely weather, we recognized last year’s accomplishments and outlined this year’s projects and goals.

We are pleased to announce that this event led to a successful Day of Giving.  Our organization reached its donation goal of over $25,000.  Thank you for all of your generous donations and ongoing support.

Collegiate Challenge 2014

Mar 26, 2014   //   by Elizabeth Wright   //   Uncategorized  //  No Comments

cc2During the week of March 9-15, a group of students from Providence College, Rhode Island participated in the Collegiate Challenge offered by Habitat for Humanity.  This alternative spring break program gave the students a chance to spend their spring break with any one of the 200 Habitat affiliates across the United States.  We were very pleased to hear that they chose to work with our affiliate.  The students had a great attitude and work ethic.  They were anxious to learn new skills and excited to help.  With their help we made substantial progress in the new Habitat house in Leechburg.  The house is now completely insulated and half the drywall is up.  These young volunteers not only helped a family in need but had fun doing it by visiting a new area and making a positive difference.

They were hosted by First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Leechburg.  Meals were donated by the host church, Forks Zion Lutheran Church, Leechburg Rotary Club, Moose Lodge 102 of Leechburg, Our Lady, Queen of Peace Church in Vandergrift, Sprankle’s Market, St. Gertrude Parish in Vandergrift, and St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kittanning.  Armstrong Habitat for Humanity thanks all of these generous contributors and is fortunate to have such a caring and involved community.
